Job Description
PHX Cat Cafe is a unique and vibrant nonprofit establishment located in Phoenix that combines the love of specialty coffee with the warmth and companionship of a cat lounge. This cafe operates with a strong community focus, where visitors get to enjoy high-quality coffee beverages while experiencing the joy of being around cats in a calm and sanitary environment. The cafe prides itself on delivering exceptional customer experiences that highlight not only great drinks but also education and awareness about animal welfare. It fosters a welcoming atmosphere where patrons can relax, socialize, and support a cause that benefits local cats in need. PHX Cat Cafe operates from Thursday through Monday, catering to a steady stream of cat enthusiasts and coffee lovers alike.
The Barista position at PHX Cat Cafe, also known as "The Purrista," is more than just preparing and serving coffee; it serves as the essential frontline interaction for visitors. This part-time role offers $15.15 per hour plus tips, with typical shifts ranging from 4 to 6 hours, working 2 to 3 shifts a week, primarily on weekends, totaling around 12 to 18 hours weekly. Candidates must be available every weekend due to the cafe's operating days and are encouraged to have some flexibility to cover additional shifts when needed. The cafe seeks individuals who can commit to staying with the company for at least one year, ensuring consistency and customer familiarity.
In this role, The Purrista serves as the face of PHX Cat Cafe, warmly greeting customers as they arrive and acting as knowledgeable guides about the nonprofit’s mission and operations. Responsibilities include checking in customers who have reservations for the cat lounge, handling walk-in reservations, and meticulously preparing and serving specialty coffee drinks such as cappuccinos, lattes, and espressos. While The Purrista does not directly interact with the cats during shifts to maintain hygiene and separation between beverage preparation and animal care, the position requires a genuine enthusiasm for cats and a passion for sharing interesting facts and stories about them with patrons. Excellent customer service skills are crucial, as well as the ability to manage multiple customers efficiently during busy periods, using technological tools like point-of-sale systems and reservation apps. Overall, the role is perfect for those who love both coffee culture and feline friends and want to contribute meaningfully to a nonprofit community space.
