The Barista role at Gregorys Coffee is integral to ensuring the company’s reputation for excellence is maintained and advanced. Baristas are ambassadors of the brand, responsible for mastering the company’s coffee program, including an in-depth understanding of the coffees served—their origins, components, and brewing methods. The role requires operating various coffee brewing and grinding equipment, handling point-of-sale and mobile payment systems, and maintaining store cleanliness and organization. Baristas engage directly with guests, crafting each drink with care and aiming to provide an unforgettable guest experience. The position demands multitasking in a high-volume environment while upholding health department standards and company protocols. Responsibilities also include receiving deliveries, quality control, temperature logging, and maintaining the store’s presentation including the pastry case and condiment stations. Additionally, baristas should uphold the company dress code and demonstrate a positive attitude, passion for coffee, and professional communication skills at all times. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in coffee preparation or customer service preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Availability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to maintain personal hygiene and a clean work environment

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Knowledge of Square point of sale system and Timestation software
  • Department of Health and Mental Hygiene certificate preferred

Job Duties

  • Responsible for learning and maintaining company standards and protocols
  • Responsible for learning, understanding, and being able to speak knowledgeably about the company and the coffee program
  • Responsible for knowing and being able to speak about all coffees served in the shop including coffee components, history, and brewing methods
  • Operates coffee brewing equipment, grinders, scales, timers, water towers, point of sale systems, and mobile payment systems
  • Restocks all areas of store including coffee bar and back rooms
  • Performs opening, closing, and mid-day tasks
  • Responsible for learning and perfecting latte art
  • Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of the store including sweeping, mopping, cleaning drains, taking out trash, surface cleaning, and dishes
  • Provides guests with a memorable experience
  • Responsible for taking guest orders and ensuring complete and accurate orders
  • Resolves guest complaints professionally or alerts attending leader
  • Responsible for receiving and signing for orders from suppliers
  • Checks quality and accuracy of deliveries
  • Takes and records temperatures as required
  • Works efficiently in a high volume environment while maintaining service and quality
  • Maintains health department standards
  • Keeps store clean, stocked, and organized including pastry case, condiment station, merchandiser, grab and go refrigerator, bathroom, and walk-in refrigerator
  • Abides by employee dress code protocol
  • Displays a positive attitude and passion for coffee
  • Believes each drink brings value to the customer
