Job Description

The Barfield, Autograph Collection, is a distinguished boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Amarillo, Texas. With a focus on blending Texas Panhandle hospitality with a modern luxury touch, this hotel offers an inviting and exceptional experience for guests. Featuring 112 stylish guest rooms, The Barfield boasts a refined yet rugged Italian steakhouse named Toscana, as well as the speakeasy-inspired Paramount Recreation Club. This unique blend of historic charm and contemporary innovation places The Barfield at the forefront of luxury accommodations in the region. Working at The Barfield means joining a dynamic and service-oriented team known as Curators who are passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences. The Barback position plays a crucial supportive role within the Food and Beverage department by assisting bartenders and servers to ensure smooth service flow. As the bartender's right hand, the Barback must constantly be aware of service timing and guest needs within their assigned station. Responsibilities include maintaining an impeccably stocked and clean bar, supporting food and beverage service requests, and upholding the highest standards of safety and sanitation throughout the shift. The Barback must be a poised and attentive presence at the bar, demonstrating excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to guest satisfaction.

This is a non-exempt position reporting directly to the Restaurant Manager, ideal for candidates who thrive in fast-paced, guest-focused environments. The role demands physical stamina for tasks such as lifting, carrying, and extensive walking during shifts up to eight hours. The successful Barback will exhibit a strong work ethic, punctuality, and an eagerness to learn about the menu, ingredients, and service protocols. Adherence to uniform standards and professional conduct within guest sights is paramount. Job Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand throughout an eight-hour shift
  • Ability to lift, balance and carry large, oval dining room service trays
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40lbs
  • Closed toe, non-canvas and non-skid soled shoes required

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to think and communicate clearly in high pressure situations
  • Ability to move quickly and gracefully throughout the dining room
  • Growing knowledge of the restaurant's menu, ingredients and cooking techniques
  • Knowledge of all glassware types
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and be punctual in a complete uniform
  • Knowledgeable of basic sanitation
  • Knowledgeable of computer operations and ordering procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly including service procedures, menus, floor plans and register operation
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality

Job Duties

  • Assist bartenders, servers and hosts in properly serving food and beverages when requested
  • Clear, clean and reset bar in keeping with company and proper sanitation standards
  • Crumb tables as directed by the server
  • Transport dirty tableware from the dining room to the dish drop area and sort accordingly
  • Maintain stock and cleanliness of bar for all meal periods with necessary equipment
  • Wipe down bar and chairs and clean floors as necessary
  • Maintain an organized and fully stocked bar within each shift
  • Ensure bar is stocked and visually appealing
  • Respond immediately and graciously to guest service issues and report to the appropriate server or manager on duty
  • Maintain an acceptable appearance for station and surrounding area
  • Perform special cleaning projects such as dusting, polishing and scrubbing walls
  • Maintain communication and teamwork with all co-workers and supervisors
  • Conduct oneself professionally with awareness that all actions are within guest view
