Job Description
Hotel Heron is a stunning boutique hotel located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, just minutes from Washington, DC. Originally opened in 1926 as the George Mason Hotel, it has been thoughtfully restored and expanded to blend historic charm with modern amenities. The hotel features 134 chic guest rooms, a signature ground floor restaurant offering hearth-inspired Mid-Atlantic cuisine, a cozy craft cocktail bar, and a seasonal rooftop bar with breathtaking views of the Potomac River. Guests can also enjoy a state-of-the-art fitness center and versatile meeting spaces designed to encourage socializing, working, and relaxing. Hotel Heron prides itself on providing a unique experience that showcases Alexandria's rich cultural legacy and vibrant innovation through local business collaborations and artisanal touches.
The Barback position at Hotel Heron is a part-time role reporting directly to the Food and Beverage Manager, designed for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic hospitality environments. This non-exempt role plays a crucial supportive function within the hotel's food and beverage team, ensuring smooth and efficient service. The Barback works collaboratively alongside bartenders and servers to maintain an organized and stocked bar area, anticipating the needs of both guests and service staff. This role requires a blend of stamina, attentiveness, and a positive attitude to navigate the often chaotic atmosphere of a busy bar. Employees in this role are expected to be quick, efficient, and personable, able to interact warmly with both guests and teammates.
In addition to the vibrant work environment, Hotel Heron offers comprehensive benefits aimed at supporting employee well-being and professional growth. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays, as well as access to a discount program across sister hotels. The hotel also provides medical, dental, vision, and pet insurance options at affordable group rates. Employees have opportunities for community involvement through paid volunteer time and receive encouragement to expand their skills and advance within the brand. The hotel fosters a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, promoting a strong sense of belonging among its team members. Hotel Heron seeks team members who are passionate about hospitality, enjoy working under pressure, and bring an energetic and vibrant personality to their role. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors is required, along with a willingness to learn and grow within the food and beverage field. This role is ideal for a multitasker who values teamwork and is excited to contribute to an exceptional guest experience in a historic and inspiring setting.
