The role of the Barback at Gilley's is integral to the seamless operation of the bar and the overall guest experience. As the primary person responsible for maintaining adequate liquor supplies, the Barback ensures that the bar is well-stocked and organized, enabling bartenders to serve guests efficiently. This position demands a proactive approach to maintaining sanitary conditions in all bar areas and associated equipment, guaranteeing safety and cleanliness that meet departmental and property standards. The Barback's responsibilities extend beyond stocking and cleaning to include detailed record-keeping such as tracking bar transfers and inventory management of liquors, beers, and supplies. In this role, the Barback must handle high-volume customer interactions with a consistently outgoing, upbeat, and cheerful demeanor, building strong guest relations by engaging with customers to create a welcoming environment.

The Barback at Gilley's is also tasked with observing bar activities to promptly report anything unusual and managing routine customer complaints effectively while ensuring that any significant issues are escalated to management. This role requires excellent communication skills and professionalism, as it involves regular interaction with customers and the broader team. Additionally, the Barback contributes to maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility by managing refuse and ensuring that the bar area is spotless. The position requires physical strength and mobility, as tasks may involve lifting items weighing over 80 pounds, operating equipment like electric pallet jacks, and enduring long periods of standing and walking. Schedule flexibility is essential, as the Barback must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. This role is pivotal to the operational success of Gilley's bar services and offers opportunities for cross-training in other food and beverage positions, fostering a versatile and skilled team member.

Job Requirements

  • Physically mobile with reasonable accommodations
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible cues
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel and grip items
  • Must be able to lift items in excess of 80 pounds
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time (8-12 hours)

  • Must be able to tolerate areas with secondary smoke, high noise levels, bright lights, and dust

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older and have the ability to obtain and retain KRGC Gaming License
  • One year of direct customer contact experience preferred
  • High-volume restaurant experience preferred
  • Possess physical strength and mobility
  • Must be able to operate electric pallet jack and other tools necessary to do the job
  • Display professionalism with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain professional appearance as outlined in the Gilley's Team Member Handbook
  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Available to work required schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime

Job Duties

  • Ensure proper set-up, stocking, and delivery of liquor supplies, glassware and ice
  • Maintain cleanliness of bar areas, coolers and equipment
  • Perform deep cleaning of bars
  • Complete required paperwork including bar transfers (liquors) and dry stock deliveries (napkins, towels and straws)
  • Maintain PARS of liquors, beers, and supplies in coolers and dry storage areas, order as needed
  • Deal with high volume customer interactions and be consistently outgoing, upbeat and cheerful
  • Build guest relations throughout every shift by talking with customers and making them feel welcome, comfortable, and inviting them back
  • Observe all activity within assigned area offering assistance to all guests
  • Observe activity and report anything that is out of the ordinary
  • Handle routine customer complaints and incidents and exhibit the appropriate discretion to identify situations that require management attention
  • Ensure all guests are kept in play by providing friendly and helpful service at all interactions
  • Utilize open body language, politely speak with and assist guests as needed
  • Assist in maintaining a spotless facility by disposing of cups, glasses or bottles left by guests
  • Maintain monetary and paperwork accuracy and efficiency within department/property standards
  • Adhere to regulatory, departmental, and company policies ethically and encourage others to do the same
  • Resolve guest disputes quickly and efficiently up to a pre-determined amount, notifying management when necessary
  • Crosstrain in other F&B jobs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
