The Barback position at Watershed Hospitality stands as a critical support role within the high-paced bar operations. This position demands constant physical activity including heavy lifting, bending, twisting, and moving between the kitchen, bar, and floor areas while managing supplies and equipment necessary for the bartenders to function efficiently. As a Barback, the individual acts as the backbone of the bar team, ensuring that the bartenders have everything they need without delay, contributing directly to the revenue generated during each shift. This role requires a proactive attitude, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the bartenders and the team. Barbacks work autonomously yet are essential collaborators liaising between servers, bussers, and kitchen staff to maintain a smooth, timely, and pleasant customer experience.

The Barback is responsible for maintaining hygiene standards, stocking the bar, emptying garbage, carrying supplies, and performing opening and closing duties, which necessitates a strong sense of urgency and physical stamina. Shifts are predominantly evening and night, with mandatory availability during all University of Michigan home football games, highlighting the importance of commitment and flexibility in scheduling.

Job Requirements

  • Availability for all University of Michigan home football games
  • availability predominantly for evening and night shifts
  • ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • physical ability to bend, twist, pull and push
  • prior barback experience preferred
  • high energy level
  • strong work ethic
