This role offers an hourly pay range between $17.00 and $18.00, with an anticipated start date between mid-July and late August, depending on orientation schedules.

The Barback is responsible for maintaining the bar’s cleanliness and organization while ensuring all supplies and ingredients are well-stocked. This includes replenishing beverages, preparing garnishes, managing paper products, glassware, ice, condiments, and other essential bar items. The position requires adherence to state, federal, and corporate liquor laws to ensure safe and responsible service to guests. Courteous and timely service to attendees during UW-Madison football games, concerts, and other sporting events is crucial to supporting an exceptional guest experience.

In addition to stocking and cleaning duties, the Barback assists bartenders by performing tasks like refilling ice and soda syrup during events. Monitoring guest identification and recognizing signs of intoxication are also important responsibilities. Attention to detail for maintaining an attractive bar display by arranging bottles and glassware is essential. The role demands physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds during very busy events.

Candidates must be able to work all UW-Madison football games and most events at the Kohl Center during the 2026-2027 season. The job requires thriving in fast-paced, high-volume settings while upholding health, safety, and sanitation standards in the beverage area. Certification in ServSafe Alcohol Safety and Food Handling is required or must be obtained shortly after hire.
