The Banquet Captain role is a vital position within the Crowne Plaza Lansing team focused on the successful execution of banquet events and superior guest service. This full-time position involves supervising banquet associates to follow Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) precisely while maintaining a standard of excellence in service and operational procedures. The Banquet Captain is responsible for training and mentoring banquet staff, ensuring that all team members are well-prepared and motivated to deliver outstanding service. The position also requires performing administrative tasks such as preparing 90-day and yearly evaluations, writing reports, monitoring billing and credit policies, and assisting with banquet scheduling to accommodate guest needs.
In addition to managing guest interactions and ensuring guest satisfaction through prompt responses and problem resolution, the Banquet Captain must ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including sanitation standards and alcohol service laws. The role involves frequent communication with guests and staff, leveraging problem-solving skills and procedural knowledge, especially regarding table service standards and menu item preparation. The individual in this position must also be physically capable of working in varying temperature conditions and handling equipment and supplies as required for banquet setup and maintenance.

Job Requirements
- High school or equivalent education preferred
- Minimum of two years prior food service/event experience required
- Must be at the minimum age to serve alcohol in line with any local legislative requirements
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and/or holidays
- Willingness to attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings
- Compliance with Crowne Plaza Lansing rules and regulations
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures
- Ability to transport items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to exert mobility for up to 8 hours
- Ability to maneuver in limited space areas
- Ability to position self for cleaning and set-up/take-down duties
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of two years prior food service or event experience required
- Knowledge of table service standards and appropriate table settings and service ware
- Knowledge of all menu items and methods of preparation
- Ability to comply with local laws regarding food handling or serving of alcohol, including ability to take and pass ServSafe Alcohol Safety class and exam
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and/or holidays
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow safety protocols and procedures
- Experience delivering superior customer service
Job Duties
- Supervise and guide banquet associates to execute Banquet Event Orders (BEOs)
- Provide verbal and written documentation to associates as needed
- Write and present 90-day and yearly evaluations to associates
- Train and develop banquet staff
- Create and distribute Captain reports
- Perform billing duties as needed and maintain company credit policies
- Help with AV questions as necessary
- Deliver superior service and maximize customer satisfaction
- responding to guest requests as needed
- Resolve guest problems and offer recovery
- Maintain communication with all departments to ensure customer service needs are met
- Engage with guests and fellow associates
- May assist with the banquet scheduling
- adjusting schedules, as necessary, to meet guest needs
- Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations
- Assist the management of BEO's and change logs
- Monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption to determine when alcohol service to the guest should cease
- notify management of incidents involving excessive alcohol consumption or impaired condition of guests
- check identification whenever the age of a guest requesting an alcoholic beverage service is questionable
- Clean and maintain workspace including tables, equipment, etc.
