The Banquet Server role at Maumee Bay Lodge is a vital position within the catering and events team. This role centers around providing excellent food and beverage service to guests during various events and banquets, including corporate gatherings, weddings, family reunions, and all other catered occasions. Banquet Servers at this resort are responsible for serving plated meals or buffet-style food efficiently and professionally, ensuring that guests experience top-notch service throughout their event.

The position offers competitive hourly pay starting at $7.50 plus service charge from the events worked, with potential earnings averaging between $13.00 and $20.00 per hour depending on business levels. Shifts can start early in the morning as 5 a.m. for breakfast events and extend late into the night, sometimes until 12 a.m. or 1 a.m. for weddings. The role demands flexibility with scheduling, including working weekends and holidays to support the variety of events hosted at the lodge.

Banquet Servers are expected to manage large trays carrying up to eight meals for plated service events and ensure the banquet area is well-prepared and organized. This includes setting up chafers for food, place settings, napkins, condiments, and water. Additionally, they are responsible for the breakdown and cleanup after events, maintaining cleanliness and order within the banquet space. The ability to bus tables during events to keep the area neat and comfortable for attendees is a key component of the role.

Physical stamina is essential for success in this role, as it requires standing and walking for long periods, frequently bending, stooping, occasionally squatting, and lifting up to 50 lbs regularly. A strong understanding of food and beverage service procedures, combined with excellent customer service skills, allows Banquet Servers to contribute positively to the overall guest experience.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service procedures
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, and pull
  • Ability to work any shift, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Must be able to frequently bend/stoop and occasionally squat, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly

Job Duties

  • Serve food and beverages to guests in a professional and efficient manner
  • Carry large service trays with up to 8 meals for plated events
  • Set up for banquet events to include chafers for food, place settings, napkins, condiments, waters, etc.
  • Breakdown of chafters, napkins, condiments, glasses, etc.
  • Bus tables during the event to ensure tables are as clean as possible for event attendees
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the banquet area
  • May set up tables and chairs at times when needed
