Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in food services and facilities management, committed to enhancing quality of life and promoting a better everyday experience for everyone. With a significant presence in the Virginia Beach area, Sodexo operates the Virginia Beach Convention Center, a premier location known for hosting a wide range of events including meetings, receptions, luncheons, dinners, and special functions. Sodexo's dedication to excellence and customer satisfaction has made it a preferred partner for catering and event services across diverse communities and industries. The company values its employees highly, promoting a culture of respect, fairness, inclusion, and personal growth, which aligns closely with its mission to contribute positively to the economic, social, and environmental progress in the regions where it operates.

The role of the Banquet Server at the Virginia Beach Convention Center is a part-time position with a competitive hourly wage of $17. This role is integral to ensuring the smooth execution of food and beverage service during various catered events. Banquet Servers at Sodexo play a crucial role in creating a memorable guest experience by delivering attentive, professional, and timely service. The position requires flexibility in work schedule with varying shifts, and open availability is preferred to accommodate the diverse event calendar. Working under the guidance of the Banquet Captain and Banquet Supervisor, Banquet Servers are responsible for assisting in event setup, executing service according to service standards, and event breakdown after completion. Service styles can range from casual buffet setups to formal plated dinners and passed hors d'oeuvres, requiring adaptability and a keen eye for maintaining high presentation standards.

Banquet Servers at Sodexo are expected to maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area, service stations, and workspaces throughout events, clear and reset tables as needed, and help sustain the overall aesthetic and ambiance desired by clients. Physical endurance is essential as the role involves frequent lifting and moving of moderately heavy items up to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The position demands punctuality, reliability, and a commitment to showing up on time for scheduled shifts, contributing positively to the event team's success. The dynamic nature of the job means that duties may vary depending on the size and specifics of each event, as well as individual client requirements.

Sodexo supports its Banquet Servers with continuous training and development opportunities designed to foster professional growth and potential career advancement. From food safety practices to alcohol service certification, employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their role. The work environment at Sodexo is flexible and supportive, designed to help employees balance work responsibilities with personal life commitments. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package including paid time off, holidays, medical, dental and vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, and a 401k plan, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the wellbeing of its workforce and their families.

Overall, working as a Banquet Server at Sodexo represents much more than a job; it is an opportunity to be part of a diverse, inclusive team that values you for who you are and provides a platform for growth in the hospitality industry. If you are enthusiastic about delivering outstanding customer service and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, this position offers the perfect opportunity to build your career while positively impacting the experiences of others.
