Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • previous banquet server experience preferred
  • must be able to follow directions and get along well with others
  • must be TIPS, CARE or equivalent certified or become certified by first day on the job
  • ability to stand for long periods
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • must maintain responsible alcohol service certification

Job Duties

  • Reviews and understands the Banquet Event Order (BEO)
  • completes setup according to the BEO
  • sets tables in assigned area correctly and uniformly using clean linens and spotless silverware, china, and glassware
  • learns the menu for each function and explains ingredients and preparation to guests
  • stands in assigned station at least 15 minutes prior to function start time
  • acknowledges and responds to all guest requests and advises supervisor if necessary
  • keeps station neat and clean during service
  • continuously patrols assigned station, refilling drinks and removing service items as per policies
  • ensures guests have everything they need
  • uses proper in-room clearing and aisle tray breakdown procedures
  • returns all reusable table complements and condiments for cleaning and refilling
  • assists Captain or Manager in setting up and breaking down buffet and special food service tables/stations
  • sets up, serves, and/or breaks down coffee breaks, receptions, and special functions following standard procedures
  • sets up, tends, and breaks down banquet bars according to policy
  • follows cash and guest check procedures
  • returns excess food to the kitchen following sanitation guidelines without consuming food without approval
  • completes assigned side work like refilling condiments, shaking and sorting linen, and cleaning/storing equipment
  • assists steward in keeping banquet back hall and storage areas clean and orderly
  • learns and applies proper service procedures
  • assists co-workers as needed
  • remains updated on hotel events affecting responsibilities
  • maintains responsible alcohol service certification
  • mixes and serves alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks during banquet events
  • sets up, services, breaks down, and cleans all break areas and coffee break carts
  • presents breaks attractively and keeps areas clean
  • presents breaks within BEO time parameters
  • prepares beverages correctly
  • secures beverage coolers and storage at shift end
  • assists setup staff if necessary
  • knows and abides by company, hotel, and departmental policies
  • demonstrates active listening skills
