The Lead Banquet Captain role at The Loom Hotel is a pivotal position within the Banquets department, reporting directly to the Food and Beverage Manager. This exempt full-time role is responsible for supervising the set-up, service, and clean-up of all assigned banquet functions, ensuring an outstanding level of service throughout each event. The Lead Banquet Captain takes a supervisory role, performing scheduling and payroll functions, providing leadership and direction to the Banquet team, including other Banquet Captains, under the guidance of the Director of Sales and Catering. Duties include overseeing banquet staff to ensure all events operate smoothly and safely, reviewing banquet event orders to communicate effectively with event planners, and ensuring timely room preparation.

The position requires close attention to detail, from inspecting buffet and table settings to monitoring beverage service in compliance with all laws and company policies. The Lead Banquet Captain maintains constant communication with the kitchen staff to coordinate food production and service timing and is responsible for sanitation and cleanliness standards in function spaces and storage areas. Training and developing back-up personnel, providing excellent customer service, and managing guest relations with professionalism are key aspects of the role. This leadership position demands excellent communication, organizational, and motivational skills to drive a high-performing banquet team. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for long periods
  • Able to push, stoop, bend, and lift items up to 50 pounds repetitively
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience in banquet service
  • Knowledge of banquet menus and pricing
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Must follow federal, state, and local beverage service regulations
  • Ability to handle scheduling and payroll functions
  • Must be able to maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards
  • Flexible schedule availability including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Supervises banquet staff in completion of assigned functions and set-up
  • Oversees service and breakdown of events in a safe manner
  • Attends weekly BEO meetings and discusses plan of action for events
  • Reviews banquet event orders and communicates with meeting/event planners
  • Ensures all functions take place on time and rooms are ready 30 minutes before BEO time
  • Conducts pre-function meetings to uphold hygiene and appearance standards
  • Checks-in servers, assigns stations, and pre-posts side work duties
  • Inspects buffet and table settings for cleanliness and correctness
  • Monitors work stations, refilling beverages and removing service items
  • Assists with audio/visual set-up and maintenance as necessary
  • Supervises all servers and ensures guest service throughout functions
  • Maintains control over banquet beverage service complying with laws
  • Inspects sanitation of function spaces and storage areas
  • Prepares daily summary and turns it in to Night Audit with banquet checks
  • Trains and develops back-up personnel for Banquet Captain position
  • Provides leadership and direction to Banquet Captains
  • Maintains communication with Banquet Chef for food service coordination
  • Monitors cleanliness and organization of work areas
  • Supervises clearing and post-function clean-up
  • Provides excellent customer service and resolves guest issues
  • Trains staff in emergency, fire evacuation, safety procedures, and medical emergencies
  • Provides timely weekly work schedules for Banquet staff
