Job Description
The Doubletree by Hilton in Spokane, Washington, is a distinguished hotel hospitality establishment known for its prime location in the heart of downtown Spokane. The opportunity available at the Doubletree by Hilton is for the position of Banquet Captain. This role is essential within the hospitality team, primarily responsible for the flawless execution of banquet events. The Banquet Captain works closely with the sales and food and beverage teams to ensure that each event runs smoothly from preparation to completion. This role requires an individual with a keen eye for detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and a passion for delivering impeccable service to hotel guests and event attendees.
The Banquet Captain orchestrates the setup of event spaces according to customer specifications which includes moving furniture and overseeing general cleanliness. They also ensure all banquet requirements are met at least thirty minutes prior to event start times. Working hand-in-hand with the sales team, they manage additional event needs such as ordering extra items, and they efficiently manage the event timeline to guarantee a successful function. Responsibilities extend to guest interaction, where the Banquet Captain must be proactive in addressing guest questions, requests, and complaints to maintain high satisfaction levels.
The leadership aspect of this role involves supervising banquet service staff, delegating duties efficiently, and maintaining strong communication with kitchen staff to coordinate catering efforts. This role demands the ability to process payments promptly, manage the maintenance and security of event spaces, and assist in training new banquet staff regarding service etiquette and hygiene standards. Participation in team meetings and special projects is also expected to foster continuous improvement and teamwork.
The ideal candidate for this role will have at least two years of catering or banquet operations experience, preferably in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Relevant certifications such as a Food Handlers Card and knowledge of brand-specific standards including alcohol service certifications are necessary. The position requires physical stamina with the ability to lift up to 45 pounds and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the business needs. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum two years catering or banquet experience preferably in a lead or supervisor role
- Food handlers card
- Washington State class 12 alcohol TIPS card
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds
- Must be able to walk and stand for up to 8 hours a day
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong customer service and leadership skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or successful completion of GED
- Minimum two years catering operations or banquet experience preferably in a lead or supervisor capacity
- Knowledge of A/V equipment and Hilton systems a plus but not required
- Food handlers card required
- Washington State class 12 alcohol TIPS card required
- Strong customer service, leadership, and communication skills
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and email systems preferred
Job Duties
- Confirm setup of event spaces according to customer specifications prior to event including moving furniture and general clean-up
- Getting all requirements for the banquet ready at least thirty minutes before the occasion begins
- Working with sales team to order additional items if required for event
- Orchestrating the event timeline correctly with a good sense of urgency and efficiency
- Ensuring that the questions, requests, and complaints of the guests are attended to
- Meet and greet guest contacts
- observing guests and finding out if they need something or have a query
- Supervise and execute setup and service of food
- delegate duties to servers and oversee activity throughout events if event requires additional servers
- Maintaining good communication with the kitchen staff to aid effective catering service to guests
- Seeing to the clearing of all tables of glasses, plates, and trays and the removal of all linens
- Ensuring that all doors are properly locked up and handing over the keys to the appropriate authorities
- Process banquet checks accurately and efficiently for payment
- Ensure proper maintenance, cleaning, or repair of the facilities
- notifying the maintenance team of any maintenance issues that requires attention
- Participate in and lead department meetings
- Practices teamwork and cooperates with peers, being sensitive to others feelings and beliefs
- Assisting in training additional banquet staff for meal service on the correct etiquettes and ensuring they uphold a high level of hygiene
