The role of the Grocery Clerk in the Bakery and Deli department is vital to Smith's mission to create outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service. This position is responsible for preparing bakery and deli items according to customer requests while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards. The successful candidate will support the department manager by assisting in reaching sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and fostering a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. In addition to direct customer engagement, the Grocery Clerk will manage the preparation, packaging, labeling, and inventory of bakery and deli merchandise as well as proper use and maintenance of the kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, slicers, ovens, and other machinery. They must ensure products meet quality and freshness standards by reviewing sell-by dates and maintaining proper food temperatures. The role also demands compliance with all food safety regulations and the ability to address any safety concerns proactively. Working cooperatively in a fast-paced environment, the Grocery Clerk will contribute to a positive workplace atmosphere by promoting trust and respect among associates and assisting with diverse customer needs, including special populations.
