We are currently seeking dedicated Grocery Clerks with a focus on Bakery and Deli departments to join our team. This role involves preparing bakery and deli items per customer requests, providing product samples, and ensuring product freshness and proper portion sizes. The ideal candidate will actively promote department specials, use bakery and deli equipment correctly, and maintain food safety standards. This position plays a vital role in helping the department manager achieve sales and profit goals while strictly monitoring quality assurance standards.
The Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will work closely with both customers and associates to foster an inviting atmosphere where customers feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated. Knowledge of store layout and current promotions is essential to assist customers and enhance sales opportunities.
This role requires a hands-on approach to preparing, packaging, labeling, and inventory management of ingredients and products. The Grocery Clerk will also be responsible for maintaining temperature logs, inspecting equipment for preventive maintenance, and promptly reporting discrepancies or safety concerns to management. Job Duties
- Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items
- Inform customers of bakery and deli specials
- Provide customers with fresh products in correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers
- Use refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to guidelines
- Prepare foods following food temperature logs and cooking instructions
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients using kitchen utensils and equipment
- Package, label and inventory ingredients and merchandise
- Check product quality and review sell by dates
- Use kitchen equipment including stove, scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe
- Stock and inventory department merchandise
- Report ordering and shipping discrepancies to department manager
- Locate products within store per customer requests
- Stay current with specials and promotional ads
- Maintain knowledge of products sold and respond to customer questions
- Monitor inventory and note stocking discrepancies
- Maintain proper case and cooler temperatures and logs
- Promote trust and respect among associates
- Create welcoming environment answering product questions
- Adhere to food safety regulations
- Comply with safety procedures and report unsafe conditions
- Perform preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment
- Notify management of repair needs
