Job Description

Kroger is America’s largest grocer, with a rich history dating back over a century from its humble beginnings as a single grocery store in Cincinnati. Today, Kroger operates nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different names, making it a household name in the food retail industry. Kroger takes pride in its diverse teams that share a passion for food and people, united by a common mission: To Feed the Human Spirit. The company’s dedication to innovation and excellence ensures that it consistently creates amazing experiences for customers, communities, and employees alike. Working at Kroger means being part of a family that values respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The company strives to help associates grow both personally and professionally by offering robust training, career advancement opportunities, and comprehensive benefits.

The grocery clerk position within Kroger’s Bakery/Deli department plays a vital role in creating outstanding customer experiences through exceptional service. This position is not just about stocking shelves or handling products; it’s about connecting with customers to meet their needs by providing fresh, high-quality bakery and deli items. The role includes assisting customers with product inquiries, offering samples, and sharing information about specials to enhance their shopping experience. The clerk is responsible for preparing items using proper bakery equipment, ensuring accurate portion sizes to reduce waste, and maintaining product quality by monitoring freshness and expiration dates.

In addition to customer service, the role requires compliance with food safety regulations and maintaining cleanliness and safety in the work environment. The grocery clerk uses various equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens, and cooking tools, ensuring that all are operated following company guidelines to uphold quality and safety standards. The clerk also supports inventory management by stocking, labeling, and taking inventory of department merchandise while reporting any discrepancies to management.

The position requires flexibility and teamwork, with an emphasis on promoting an inclusive environment where customers feel welcome and valued. The grocery clerk often works in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding setting, requiring good communication skills, conflict management abilities, and a cooperative attitude. This role is essential in supporting Kroger’s customer-first strategy and upholding the company’s core values.

Kroger is committed to its associates’ well-being, offering comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, employee assistance programs, tuition reimbursement, and significant opportunities for career growth through various training programs. Whether seeking part-time work or a long-term career, those who join Kroger become part of a supportive community where their contributions are recognized and their potential is nurtured.
