This role as a Grocery Clerk in the Bakery and Deli department offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the Kroger family, delivering exceptional customer experiences through outstanding service. As a Bakery/Deli Grocery Clerk, you will assist the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals while upholding quality assurance standards. In this position, you are responsible for preparing and offering freshly baked goods and deli items according to customer requests by following proper food handling and safety protocols. You will use bakery equipment safely and effectively, recommend products, provide samples, and inform customers about current specials to enhance their shopping experience. The role demands a hands-on approach, including mixing ingredients, packaging, labeling, stocking, and monitoring product quality and freshness. An understanding of store layout and inventory management will be crucial, as you’ll need to locate products efficiently for customers and assist with the maintenance of correct temperatures and food safety standards.

Job Duties

  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • offer product samples to customers
  • inform customers of bakery and deli specials
  • provide customers with fresh products in correct portions
  • recommend deli or bakery items to customers
  • use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens safely
  • prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions
  • measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • package, label and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • check product quality and review sell by dates
  • label, stock and inventory department merchandise
  • report ordering and shipping discrepancies to manager
  • locate products in store for customers
  • stay current with ads and promotions
  • maintain knowledge of products to answer questions and make suggestions
  • monitor inventory and stock conditions
  • maintain proper temperatures in storage and cases
  • promote trust and respect among associates
  • create welcoming customer environment
  • adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines
