The role of a Bakery Clerk at Kroger is integral in ensuring an excellent customer experience at the bakery department. As a Bakery Clerk, your responsibilities include preparing bakery items according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment and offering product samples to help customers discover new items. You will assist the department manager in meeting sales and profit goals while maintaining high-quality assurance standards. This role requires active communication with customers to inform them about bakery specials, recommend products, and provide correct portion sizes to minimize shrinkage. The Bakery Clerk also plays a key role in maintaining bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, ovens, and kitchen utensils following company guidelines. You will measure, mix, and prepare ingredients according to recipes, ensure proper food temperatures are maintained, and label and inventory merchandise appropriately.

In addition to food preparation, the Bakery Clerk is responsible for monitoring product quality by reviewing sell-by dates and adhering to food safety regulations and guidelines. The position requires maintaining an organized stock inventory and notifying management of ordering or shipping discrepancies. You will promote a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for customers, adhering to preventive maintenance procedures and safety protocols. Leadership qualities such as fostering trust and respect among associates, demonstrating a positive attitude, and responding effectively to customer inquiries are key in this position. The Bakery Clerk must be adaptable, capable of functioning in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic and teamwork skills. Job Duties

  • Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment
  • Offer product samples to customers to help discover new items
  • Inform customers of bakery specials
  • Provide fresh products with correct portion sizes to prevent shrink
  • Recommend bakery items to customers
  • Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens following company guidelines
  • Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking/baking instructions
  • Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • Package, label and inventory ingredients and merchandise
  • Check product quality and freshness, review sell by dates and take appropriate action
  • Properly use kitchen equipment including stove, scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe
  • Label, stock and inventory department merchandise
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to manager
  • Locate products for customers and stay current with ads
  • Gain and maintain product knowledge to respond to customer questions
  • Maintain inventory and note discrepancies
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain logs
  • Promote trust and respect among associates
  • Create a welcoming environment for customers
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines
  • Comply with safety procedures and notify management of unsafe conditions
