Specific responsibilities for this position include weighing, pricing, and packaging customer orders; understanding menu offerings and remaining up-to-date on specials and changes; adhering to cash handling procedures; monitoring product freshness and rotation; completing necessary product records; and arriving prepared to work all scheduled shifts. A key part of the role is proactive customer service—addressing customer needs promptly, suggesting additional purchases through suggestive selling techniques, and promptly managing all communications such as phone calls and pages. Team Leaders maximize sales opportunities through proper stock management and product merchandising, while enforcing compliance with established operational procedures such as health, sanitation, safe work practices, and weights and measures regulations.
Team Leaders also are tasked with performing opening, mid-shift, and closing duties, ensuring the accuracy of signage and pricing, reporting safety hazards, and undertaking additional duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership. The role demands a strong knowledge of food production and fundamental cooking techniques as well as the ability to visually assess product quality and freshness. Successful candidates will demonstrate enthusiasm for Whole Foods Market products and philosophy, excellent communication skills, teamwork orientation, strong time management, and a passion for natural foods.
No prior retail experience is necessary for this position, though candidates must meet physical requirements such as the ability to lift 50 pounds and work long periods of standing or walking.
