The Baking Team Member at Whole Foods Market plays a vital role in the preparation, production, and presentation of high-quality breads, pastries, cakes, pies, and other baked goods. This position is essential not only for maintaining the bakery's reputation for excellence but also for delivering exceptional customer service and upholding store standards. The role involves hands-on production duties, such as mixing doughs and batters, baking, cooling, wrapping, and labeling products, as well as stocking dry goods. Team Members are encouraged to develop new recipes and seasonal products to keep the bakery innovative and responsive to customer preferences. Additionally, this position requires participation in production planning and forecasting for special events and holidays.

Team Leaders and members are expected to engage actively with customers, offering friendly, efficient service, and to contribute wherever needed on the sales floor. Compliance with health, sanitation, and safety regulations is mandatory, as is maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The job demands a strong work ethic, flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, and the physical ability to perform baking-related tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing and walking for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
  • hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • able to bend, twist, squat, and reach
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • able to work in wet and dry conditions
  • ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders
  • no prior retail experience required

Job Duties

  • Produces quality breads and pastries
  • produces doughs, mixes, cakes, cookies, breakfast pastries, pies, and bars
  • performs baking, cooling, wrapping, and labeling of products
  • stocks dry products
  • develops new recipes and production techniques to ensure seasonal variance and high productivity
  • trains production personnel to the highest standards in industry
  • performs production planning and forecasting for special events and holidays
  • maintains all production modules in the Datapax system
  • arrives to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work
  • provides excellent customer service, addresses needs of customers in a timely and effective manner and models suggestive selling techniques
  • maximizes sales potential through proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product
  • follows and complies with established procedures including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
  • maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment and equipment
  • performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
  • immediately reports safety hazards and violations
  • performs other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
