The Bakery Manager position at The Fresh Market is a pivotal role that blends leadership, operational management, and hands-on bakery expertise. As the Bakery Manager, you will lead a team dedicated to delivering excellent guest experiences while managing the operational intricacies of the bakery department. This includes overseeing inventory management, maintaining pricing accuracy, and ensuring compliance with product handling and merchandising standards. The role is fast-paced and demands attention to detail, efficient workflow management, and a passion for quality and excellence. You will be responsible for greeting guests with warmth, recommending products, and accommodating dietary preferences and special requests. The position requires a flexible schedule with availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet the demands of the retail environment.

In this leadership capacity, you will take charge of directing and motivating bakery team members through both on-the-job coaching and formal training programs offered internally. Your operational responsibilities also include managing order guides, meeting ordering deadlines, and minimizing product shrinkage and damage. Proper receiving, stocking, and rotation of bakery goods are crucial to maintaining product freshness and availability. The bakery’s specialty breads, pastries, and Convenient Meal Solutions will be handled skillfully by you and your team to ensure customers receive top-tier products at all times. This dynamic position is integral to maintaining The Fresh Market’s reputation for fresh, high-quality bakery offerings and outstanding customer service, reinforcing the company’s core mission to make everyday eating extraordinary for every guest.

Job Requirements

  • 3 years of management experience in grocery retail, restaurant, baking, and/or culinary experience
  • ability to read, understand and follow planograms, layouts, and schematics of the department for merchandising
  • working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • must be at least 18 years old

Job Duties

  • Greet guests and proactively assist them in a friendly manner with accurate and timely service
  • make recommendations and accommodate requests
  • manage order guides, ordering deadlines, reducing shrink, and damage
  • properly receive and stock goods that follow rotation standards when replenishing product levels
  • handle, slice, and prepare a variety of the department’s specialty breads, pastry items, and Convenient Meal Solutions throughout the day
  • direct teams to handle, properly receive, stock, and merchandise goods that follow The Fresh Market standards
  • engage, motivate, coach, and train team members on-the-job as well as through The Fresh Market’s internal training platform to provide excellent guest service in a safe and secure manner
