Job Description
The hiring company is a well-established retail store with a dedicated bakery department, committed to providing high-quality bakery products to its customers. Known for its customer-centric approach and adherence to strict quality and safety standards, the company operates in a dynamic retail environment where freshness, product quality, and customer satisfaction are paramount. It values strong leadership within its departments to maintain operational excellence and ensure that all bakery products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. The company supports its employees by fostering a positive work environment, promoting employee relations, and encouraging professional development.
The position available is that of Bakery Manager, a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all functions within the bakery department. As the Bakery Manager, you will report directly to the Store Director or Bakery Supervisor, assuming leadership and supervisory responsibilities to guide the bakery team toward success. This is a non-exempt position, emphasizing hands-on management and active participation in day-to-day operations. The Bakery Manager is entrusted with directing and supervising all departmental functions, including merchandising, inventory control, product quality, employee scheduling, and compliance with safety and sanitation regulations.
In this role, you will be responsible for following merchandising plans to ensure that the bakery department attracts and retains customers through appealing product displays and availability. Managing inventory effectively is crucial; you will oversee ordering to maintain inventory levels that guarantee product freshness and minimize waste. A key responsibility includes maintaining asset control, particularly for commercial bread products such as Stroehman, Maier's, and private label goods, ensuring these items remain fresh and meet quality standards.
The Bakery Manager enforces all policies concerning receiving, dating, and restocking to promote proper product rotation, which reduces shrink and maximizes product availability. Participation in shrink control programs is essential to maintaining the profitability of the bakery department. Supervising and scheduling department employees efficiently will be part of your daily duties, alongside fostering a positive work environment by promoting positive employee relations.
Compliance with company policies related to safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements from local, state, and government health departments is strictly required. This includes maintaining accurate records and reports to track department activities and ensure transparency. Overseeing the baking process and general production is critical to assure consistent product quality and meeting customers' expectations. You will also be responsible for training new bakery employees, nurturing their skills to uphold department standards.
Customer interaction is a vital aspect of the role, requiring you to greet customers warmly and provide prompt, courteous service to enhance their shopping experience. Maintaining budgeted percentages related to sales distribution, labor costs, and shrink control will be monitored and managed to help meet financial goals. Additionally, the Bakery Manager must be capable of decorating cakes, contributing directly to the product offerings and customer satisfaction.
Supplementary duties include assisting with unloading merchandise, monitoring supply inventory to prevent out-of-stock situations, and participating in the filling and merchandising of the entire sales area. Maintaining cleanliness and organization through general cleaning and housekeeping tasks within the department is also part of the daily routine.
To succeed in this role, you should possess strong mathematical skills to accurately count merchandise and maintain inventory records. Effective communication skills are essential for managing staff, coordinating with supervisors, and engaging with customers. Manual dexterity is required for tasks such as bagging and packaging products efficiently. Physical stamina is important as the position involves lifting up to 50 pounds as needed, sometimes up to fifty percent of the time, reflecting the demands of a fast-paced bakery environment.
This company is an equal opportunity employer committed to complying with federal employment laws and ensuring a fair and inclusive workplace. Candidates are encouraged to understand their rights based on the Department of Labor's guidelines. If you are a motivated leader with a passion for bakery operations and customer service excellence, this Bakery Manager position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to a thriving retail environment.
