Job Description
BJ's Wholesale Club is a leading membership warehouse club that serves millions of members across the United States. With more than 30,000 dedicated team members, BJ's Wholesale Club operates on a foundation of purpose and opportunity, delivering value, quality, and convenience to families striving to save money on essentials and more. BJ's is committed to fostering a positive work environment where team members can grow personally and professionally. The company emphasizes strong ethical values, inclusivity, and collaboration, making it a rewarding place to build a career in retail and food production operations.
The Bakery Lead role at BJ's Wholesale Club is a key position responsible for overseeing bakery production and maintaining operational excellence within the bakery department. The role requires ensuring adherence to company policies and food safety standards, particularly maintaining the quality and freshness of bakery items. This position involves managing inventory proactively to ensure products are well-stocked and properly rotated using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures to minimize waste. Additionally, the Bakery Lead conducts regular quality checks, monitors sales and production data to identify areas for operational improvements, and supports seasonal and promotional merchandising initiatives.
Though this role does not include direct supervisory responsibilities, the Bakery Lead plays a vital part in driving the success of the bakery department by modeling best practices and supporting team members. The position requires frequent standing and movement, handling inventory that may weigh up to 30 pounds, and exposure to varying temperatures typical of bakery operations such as ovens and refrigeration units. Maintaining ServSafe Food Safety Certification is mandatory, with BJ's covering training and certification costs.
BJ's Wholesale Club offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $19.00 to $23.75, commensurate with experience, location, and qualifications. Employment is full-time and flexible, with a comprehensive benefits package aimed at enhancing team members' health, well-being, and financial security. Benefits include weekly pay, free club memberships for employees and their households, generous paid time off covering vacation, personal and sick days, holidays, bereavement, and jury duty leave. Team members also have access to flexible and affordable health plans, including medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account (HSA), and flexible spending account options. The company further supports employees through a 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match and an employee stock purchase plan that allows buying BJ's stock at a 15 percent discount.
This role involves engaging with members and team members alike to create a supportive, positive, and high-performing work environment. The Bakery Lead upholds BJ's GOLD Member Standards to deliver service excellence and contributes to the club's financial performance by practicing cost discipline and operational efficiency. The position requires solid organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and email for reporting and operational tasks. Overall, this is a dynamic opportunity for individuals passionate about bakery operations and committed to maintaining high standards in a fast-paced retail setting, while enjoying the benefits of working for a respected and growing company.
