The Bakery Team Leader role at Whole Foods Market is a supervisory position responsible for overseeing daily operations and the smooth functioning of the bakery department. This role entails managing bakery team members, ensuring that bakery, coffee, and juice displays are well-maintained and appealing, and supporting the Bakery Team Leader and Associate Team Leader to provide outstanding customer service and efficient department management. The position requires a hands-on leader who can schedule, train, motivate, and develop team members while fostering a positive work environment characterized by teamwork and respect. The role also includes ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations as well as maintaining the highest standards of retail execution. Candidates should be prepared to handle physical work conditions, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and operating various equipment safely. Job Requirements

  • 12+ months retail experience
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand or walk 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday
  • Ability to perform hand motions including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat, and reach
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Exposure to temperatures of approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders

  • Extensive knowledge of Bakery team procedures and policies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
  • Capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner
  • Thorough product knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
  • Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
  • 12+ months retail experience

Job Duties

  • Supervises and delegates tasks to Bakery Team Members
  • Works with Bakery Trainer to train Team Members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • Assists in training of new Team Members, utilizing learning checklists and training materials
  • Keeps all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated
  • Opens and closes department according to established procedures
  • Ensures all necessary breaks are given
  • Communicates team concerns to the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader
  • Sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • Fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • Maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
  • Provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • Consistently communicates and models Whole Foods Market vision and goals
