The Bakery Team Lead role at Whole Foods Market plays a crucial part in maintaining the high-quality experience within the bakery department. This position is responsible for scheduling and supervising team members, ensuring that the bakery, coffee, and juice displays are compelling, well-stocked, and properly rotated. The role supports leadership by training new team members using learning materials and checklists to foster a high-performance team environment while minimizing turnover. Key responsibilities also include opening and closing the department, managing breaks, and promoting a positive team atmosphere based on mutual respect and outstanding teamwork.

This role is hourly with a wage range of $17.50 to $30.20, dependent on experience. Job Requirements

  • 12+ months retail experience
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • ability to stand/walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
  • ability to use single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling hand use
  • ability to bend, twist, squat and reach
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • ability to work in temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to safely use tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Duties

  • Supervises and delegates tasks to Bakery Team Members
  • works with Bakery Trainer to train Team Members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover
  • assists in training of new Team Members utilizing learning checklists and training materials
  • keeps all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated
  • opens and closes department according to established procedures
  • ensures all necessary breaks are given
  • communicates team concerns to the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader
  • sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
  • fosters and encourages a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
  • selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members
  • provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
  • consistently communicates and models WFM vision and goals
