The Bakery Combo Clerk plays a crucial role within PAQ, Inc’s bakery department by supporting the Bakery Lead to achieve the department's sales and profit goals while enhancing the overall customer shopping experience. This full-time, non-exempt position is stationed 100% on-site and involves a dynamic blend of customer service, baking assistance, inventory management, and food safety compliance responsibilities. As the Bakery Combo Clerk often serves as a primary point of contact for customers, the role demands both a friendly and professional approach to service, along with the physical stamina to manage the demands of a fast-paced retail bakery environment.
In this role, the individual will be responsible for executing essential bakery operations such as receiving, pricing, stocking, and packaging bakery items, ensuring freshness and quality at all times. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, and squatting
- Ability to handle money and operate POS systems, including 10-key adding machines and self-checkout systems
- Ability to tolerate variations in temperature and handle hot items safely
- Ability to maintain good vision for quality control
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain clear communication with customers and team members
- Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No prior experience is required
- On-the-job training is provided
- Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus
- Ability to operate POS systems and other cashier equipment
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members
- Basic computer skills for operating the POS system
- Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance customer engagement
- Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures to ensure food safety
- Familiarity with different types of bakery products, ingredients, and recipes
Job Duties
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service, including handling difficult situations and resolving customer concerns, with supervisor assistance as needed
- Follow approved procedures for receiving, pricing, and stocking products to ensure accuracy, quality, and proper rotation
- Prepare, package, and stock bakery items as assigned
- Transport products to preparation or storage areas, including refrigerated storage boxes
- Maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover, minimizing out-of-stock or overstocked items
- Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy to control the level of damaged goods
- Maintain a clean, attractive, and friendly department to ensure a positive image for customers
