The role of Bakery Combo Clerk at PAQ, Inc. is integral in supporting the Bakery Lead to achieve department sales and profit targets while ensuring a superior customer shopping experience by maintaining high standards of quality and service. This full-time, non-exempt, on-site position demands a friendly, customer-focused individual capable of multitasking in a dynamic retail environment. Bakery Combo Clerks are often the first point of contact for customers, making their role crucial in representing the bakery department and the company positively. Duties include preparing, packaging, and stocking bakery products, managing inventory for optimal freshness and turnover, and adhering strictly to safety and sanitation policies. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to workplace safety and customer satisfaction. Work schedules typically involve 8-hour shifts with availability needed on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Availability to work varied hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods typically 8-hour shifts
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, and squatting
- Ability to work in hot environments near ovens and baking equipment
- Good vision and manual dexterity
- Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team members
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently to manage workload
- Willingness to wear approved hats or hair nets and safety shoes
- Ability to follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No prior experience required as on-the-job training is provided
- Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus
- Proficiency in basic math and cash handling procedures
- Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies
- Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures
- Familiarity with bakery products, ingredients, and recipes
- Strong communication skills to interact with customers and team members
- Ability to operate POS systems and cashier equipment
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in transactions and cash handling
- Basic computer skills for operating POS
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and manage multiple demands
- Aptitude for making informed decisions quickly
- Physical stamina to work in fast-paced retail environment
Job Duties
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service including handling difficult situations and resolving customer concerns with supervisor assistance as needed
- Follow approved procedures for receiving, pricing, and stocking products to ensure accuracy, quality, and proper rotation
- Prepare, package, and stock bakery items as assigned
- Transport products to preparation or storage areas including refrigerated storage boxes
- Maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover, minimizing out-of-stock or overstocked items
- Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy to control the level of damaged goods
- Maintain a clean, attractive, and friendly department to ensure a positive image for customers
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations
- Adhere to all state, county, and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements
- Report malfunctioning refrigeration or equipment to store management immediately
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurate information to customers
- Report potentially unsafe conditions and suspicious activities to ensure a safe store environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
