The role of a Bakery Team Member at BJ's Wholesale Club is integral to creating a superior customer experience while maintaining the high standards of product quality and safety BJ's is known for. This position involves proofing and baking all unfinished bakery goods by carefully following specific product handling information using ovens and other bakery equipment. The Bakery Team Member is responsible for unpacking frozen bakery items, accurately displaying products in alignment with the bakery production chart recommendations, and ensuring all items meet the company’s rigorous quality standards for freshness and appearance. Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in the bakery department is a core aspect of this role, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Team members in this role are expected to engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, assist in answering questions, taking special orders, and providing recommendations on bakery items. They must also collaborate effectively with the broader club team, contributing to seamless club operations and supporting compliance with club policies. Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to handle physical demands including lifting up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Must be able to maintain a friendly and positive attitude
  • Availability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety and sanitation standards
  • Prior experience in bakery or retail environment is a plus

Job Qualifications

  • Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred
  • Knowledge of bakery products preferred
  • At least 18 years of age

Job Duties

  • Answers questions and recommends bakery items
  • Answers Member calls and takes special orders
  • Proofs and bakes all unfinished bakery goods by following each item's product handling information using ovens and/or other equipment
  • Packages freshly baked goods including cookies, Danish pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, cakes, and other items as needed
  • Unpacks bakery goods from the freezer and displays proper amounts based on bakery production chart recommendations
  • Decorates special order or case product
  • Rotates and stores bakery products following proper work methods on food safety, freshness, and product handling policies
  • Receives, inspects, and stores bakery shipments
  • Ensures that all products are fresh and meet company quality standards
  • Checks for out-of-date products daily and follows salvage and stale product policies
  • Generates labels and price tickets for bakery goods and performs price check functions when necessary
  • Cleans and sanitizes equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces in the bakery including ovens, utensils, refrigerated cases, display racks, and tables
  • Operates and handles bakery equipment using proper work methods in accordance with safety policies
  • Maintains all club policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of this job
