The Bakery Clerk position at Moser's is a part-time role reporting directly to the Deli-Bakery Manager or Bakery Manager depending on the location. This role is classified as non-exempt under FLSA guidelines, meaning it is governed by hourly wage standards. The Bakery Clerk plays a vital role in ensuring customers receive excellent service combined with great-tasting baked goods that meet or exceed expectations. Responsibilities include preparing, baking, and decorating bakery items precisely according to recipes and specifications. This position requires operation of various bakery equipment such as proofers and ovens, while adhering to strict safety, sanitation, and health standards.
In addition to food preparation, the Bakery Clerk is responsible for managing bakery inventories, fulfilling special customer orders with accuracy and timeliness, and keeping detailed records of production levels and supply usage. Interaction with customers involves taking orders, providing samples, upselling promotional items, and ensuring the packaging and portion control meet quality guidelines. Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all bakery and storage areas is essential, along with monitoring equipment performance and reporting malfunctions promptly.
This role demands flexibility as the Bakery Clerk may be required to work across different store locations within the Moser's grocery network based on business needs. Work shifts are variable and can include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and possible overtime to support store operations. Essential physical demands include lifting supplies ranging from 5 to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, bending, reaching, climbing stools or ladders, and performing precise hand movements for baking and decoration activities.
Ideal candidates will have prior baker experience, preferably with cake decorating skills, and demonstrate knowledge of food safety practices including obtaining a Food Handlers Permit where applicable. Strong communication skills, basic math abilities, and proficiency in operating point-of-sale systems are required to support customer transactions accurately. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior baking experience preferred
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Basic math skills
- Food safety training or willingness to obtain Food Handlers Permit
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Willingness to work at multiple store locations
Job Qualifications
- Prior baker experience, including cake decorating, preferred
- Able to read, write, and speak in English
- Able to perform basic math
- Able to count money and provide correct change
- Demonstrate trained food safety knowledge
- Acquire Food Handlers Permit, if/as required by state of employment
- Report to work timely for each scheduled shift
- Able to work at various store locations
Job Duties
- Adhere to recipes
- Decorate and display finished products
- Keep records related to special orders, inventories and production levels
- Take customer information and ensure that special orders are fulfilled accurately and on time
- Manage inventory and order all bakery supplies and product
- Maintain a working knowledge of the operation of all kitchen equipment and safety standards
- Prepare and cook all food product per specifications, procedures, and quality standards including strict observance of designated holding times
- Verify all necessary product and supplies are stocked and available
- Put food order away accurately and in a timely manner
- Rotate stock in cooler, freezer, and dry storage area using the First In-First Out method while monitoring shelf life and freshness dates
- Fill customer orders with correct product, using proper portion control and packaging
- Use sampling, upselling, and limited time offer promotions to increase sales volume of product
- Monitor that product hold times are strictly observed and rotate product as necessary
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the entire area including the kitchen area, coolers and other food storage areas while following all the sanitation and safety guidelines and procedures
- Check all equipment within the area and immediately report malfunctions to the manager in charge
- Operate a point-of-sale system to accurately ring up purchases and give correct change
- Accomplish tasks in a timely, clean, and orderly manner
