This position is for a Bakery Team Member, an essential role within the bakery department responsible for ensuring that customers are provided with fresh, high-quality baked goods daily. Bakery Team Members proof and bake all unfinished goods, following specific product handling and safety guidelines. They are diligent in unpacking frozen bakery items, displaying recommended portions, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards throughout the bakery. The role demands precision, speed, and agility to meet production needs while delivering outstanding customer service.
As part of the team, Bakery Associates are expected to uphold BJ's GOLD standards—Greet, Anticipate, Appreciate—and contribute to a positive shopping environment by keeping the bakery area clean, organized, and well-stocked with accurate signage. The role requires teamwork, adaptability, and a strong focus on quality control to ensure that all baked products meet company standards. Additionally, Bakery Team Members assist with member inquiries, special orders, and operating bakery equipment safely and efficiently. Job Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to move about non hard surfaces and occasionally bend, handle, pull, reach, push, or stoop
- Ability to frequently lift objects up to 30 pounds and occasionally with assistance, heavier items
- Comfortable working in indoor environments with exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and coolers
- Willingness to work in environments with frequent exposure to cleaning agents
Job Qualifications
- Experience working in a bakery or customer service oriented environment preferred
- Knowledge of bakery products preferred
- At least 18 years of age
Job Duties
- Answer questions and recommend bakery items
- Answer member calls and take special orders
- Proof and bake all unfinished bakery goods following product handling information
- Unpack bakery goods from the freezer and display proper amounts based on production charts
- Package freshly baked goods such as cookies, Danish pastries, muffins, rolls, breads, pies, and cakes
- Decorate special orders or case products
- Rotate and store bakery products following food safety and freshness standards
- Receive, inspect, and store bakery shipments
- Check for out-of-date products and follow salvage and stale product policies
- Generate labels and price tickets for bakery goods and perform price checks
- Clean and sanitize bakery equipment, display fixtures, and food surfaces
- Operate bakery equipment safely according to policies
- Maintain all club policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
