The Bakery Associate position at WinCo Foods is vital in maintaining the high standards that customers expect from their bakery selections. This role entails the preparation, baking, mixing, and scaling of various bakery goods, ensuring that the bakery products meet quality, safety, and freshness standards. Employees in this position are responsible not only for producing an array of baked items such as breads, rolls, croissants, and cakes, but also for managing inventory levels, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the bakery’s presentation adheres to company standards. Working hours typically vary between 3:00 am and 10:00 pm, with shifts lasting 6 to 8 hours.

The bakery associate also plays a key role in customer engagement by welcoming and serving customers with friendly enthusiasm, taking special orders, and personalizing cakes to meet customer needs. This role requires precise manual skills, the ability to handle heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as operating various bakery equipment including ovens, mixers, proof boxes, and decorating tools. Beyond the production tasks, associates ensure proper packaging, labeling, and display of bakery products using FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation methods to maintain product quality and safety.

This position demands a strong commitment to safety and sanitation, adherence to baking recipes and production guides, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Candidates for this role must be at least 18 years old and possess or be willing to obtain Food Handler’s Certification as required by state laws. Job Requirements

  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Capability to push and pull approximately 100 lbs on racks
  • Ability to lift, mix, and handle up to 50 lbs
  • Conduct visual inspections and maintain accurate production logs
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Maintain composure in customer and coworker interactions
  • Ability to reach overhead and move rapidly for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, stoop, balance, crouch, push, pull, lift, grasp, and perform repetitive movements frequently
  • Handle bakery ingredients safely
  • Perform basic math calculations
  • Demonstrate mental alertness in hazardous baking environments
  • Respond to audible timers on equipment
  • Work around equipment emitting high heat (approximately 465 degrees)
  • Follow safety and sanitation procedures
  • Use cleaning chemicals and handle food products properly

  • Label bakery items by inputting data into DiGi machine
  • Display products on shelves using FIFO rotation
  • Take orders from customers in person or by phone
  • Personalize cakes by writing requested words
  • Face merchandise
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
  • Display goods following packaging and handling procedures
  • Assist customers with inquiries on pricing, ingredients and availability
  • Ensure quality of goods by following code dating and legal regulations
  • Monitor inventory levels and complete production sheets
  • Produce breads and rolls by following recipes and operating machinery
  • Clean work area using designated tools
  • Produce croissants by folding, proofing and baking
  • Open and close bakery according to procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed
