The role available is a Bakery Associate position focused on packaging, labeling, and pricing bakery products to maintain high quality and freshness standards. This position is essential for ensuring the bakery section remains well-stocked, visually appealing, and operating according to company safety and food quality standards. The Bakery Associate is responsible for monitoring stock levels, checking product appearance and dates, and maintaining appropriate storage temperatures to guarantee product integrity.

In this role, the Associate will assist bakery personnel in preparing, packaging, labeling, and professionally displaying baked goods. Suggestive selling techniques are used to promote sales and enhance the customer experience. The candidate will also be responsible for stacking pallets and sorting products to meet company efficiency guidelines. Maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary working environment in compliance with company safety policies is critical. The position requires providing excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering inquiries, and taking orders both in person and over the phone.

Ideal candidates will possess the ability to read and operate digital equipment, meters, dials, and calibrated scales, as well as safely operate bakery machinery such as bread slicers and commercial ovens. The role requires hands-on skills with various tools and the ability to adapt quickly to new systems and processes, contributing to a collaborative and positive team environment. Effective communication skills are necessary both internally with team members and externally with customers.

Candidates should be flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential hazards promptly. Reporting any safety concerns that cannot be immediately resolved to supervisors is a key responsibility to uphold a safe workplace.

This position requires a minimum age of 18 years, with candidates being 21 or older to drive for company business in line with BGC's driver policy. Food Handler certification is mandatory, and on-the-job training is typically provided to acclimate new hires to the role. Physical demands are considerable, including continuous standing, walking, vision use, and hand movements, with frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting objects up to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds. The work environment is a retail setting with exposure to varying temperatures, slippery surfaces, sharp equipment, cleaning agents, and moderate noise levels.
