The position of Bakery Clerk at Cardenas Markets is an integral role within the retail store environment. The Bakery Clerk focuses on a variety of tasks related to maintaining the bakery section, including engaging directly with customers to address their questions and concerns, and assisting with the preparation and display of baked goods such as breads, cookies, desserts, and traditional items like pan dulce. This role also involves organizing and stocking the bakery cases to ensure they are well-presented and fully stocked, along with ensuring the accuracy of pricing and the freshness of all bakery products by managing product rotation and discarding any outdated items.

Those who take on this position will operate bakery equipment, such as mixers, heat sources, and blenders, which makes basic baking knowledge helpful. Additionally, the Bakery Clerk will be responsible for taking food orders both in person and by telephone, actively supporting the team’s efforts to deliver timely, quality service. Physical demands of the role include continuous walking and standing for entire shifts, as well as the ability to lift weights up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Job Duties

  • Maintain standards for quality, cleanliness, organization, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, department conditions, and food safety
  • Stock, fill, face, and ensure pricing accuracy while examining the rotation of all bakery products and discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • Work with various professional bakery equipment, including heat sources, mixers, and blenders
  • Take food orders in person and by telephone
