This role is an assistant to the Team Leader in a retail setting within Whole Foods Market stores. It is a pivotal position responsible for supporting daily store operations including profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, managing labor, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing special projects. The person in this role leads and develops team members, fostering an environment of teamwork, mutual respect, and high morale. The Assistant Team Leader supports the Team Leader in analyzing sales reports, purchasing data, and labor performance to help meet store targets. They take an active role in creating creative store layouts and innovative product merchandising, maintaining strong relationships with vendors, and ensuring all vendor paperwork is properly managed. Acting as a point person when the Team Leader is absent, the Assistant Team Leader ensures continuity of leadership and smooth operations within the department.
This role also emphasizes leadership in team development through selecting, training, mentoring, and motivating team members to build a strong workforce with minimal turnover. Timely and thoughtful performance evaluations are part of managing the team’s growth and success. The Assistant Team Leader must possess advanced product knowledge and remain up to date on new products, safety protocols, and regulatory policies. The role demands excellent interpersonal skills, decision-making ability, prioritizing and delegating, and proficiency in essential technology tools such as email and Microsoft Office.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, use various tools and equipment, and work in diverse conditions including exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures. Flexibility in scheduling covering nights, weekends, and holidays is necessary.
The hourly wage range for this position is between $19.05 and $33.20, commensurate with experience. Job Requirements

Job Duties
- Develops and maintains creative store layout and product merchandising
