Job Description
PAQ, Inc. is a 100% employee-owned company operating 25 retail grocery stores throughout the Central Valley and Central Coast of California. The company consists of seventeen price-impact, warehouse format stores under the Food 4 Less banner and eight Hispanic-format stores under the Rancho San Miguel Market banner. The role of Bakery 2nd at PAQ, Inc. is a key supervisory position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the bakery. This role ensures the quality, consistency, and hygiene of baked goods while managing and guiding a team of bakers to meet production targets. The Bakery 2nd crafts and bakes a wide variety of products including breads, pastries, and desserts, ensuring that every item meets high-quality standards. This position demands a thorough understanding of baking techniques, ingredient measurements, equipment operation, and food safety protocols. The Bakery 2nd also coordinates production schedules with the bakery lead, assists in inventory management, trains new staff, and handles customer inquiries with excellent service.
In this full-time, non-exempt position located on-site at PAQ stores, the Bakery 2nd works varied hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed to maintain bakery operations. Working conditions involve standing and walking for extended periods, lifting and carrying heavy items up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive motions such as kneading dough and decorating pastries. The bakery environment includes exposure to heat from ovens and warmers as well as cooler temperatures in refrigerated areas. Employees are required to maintain a professional appearance with approved attire and safety footwear while adhering to strict sanitation and food safety standards.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- over five years of experience as a baker preferred
- must be 18 years of age or older
- ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- ability to perform repetitive motions such as kneading dough and mixing ingredients
- ability to work varied hours including weekends evenings and holidays
- ability to follow strict sanitation and food safety guidelines
- ability to maintain professional attire and wear safety footwear
- good vision and manual dexterity
- ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
- ability to adapt to changing situations and manage multiple demands
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- over five years of experience as a baker preferred
- previous supervisory experience is a plus
- strong leadership and team management skills
- excellent communication and customer service skills
- ability to bake various goods from breads to pastries following recipes and adjusting as necessary
- knowledge of proper food handling storage and sanitation procedures
Job Duties
- Supervise and manage the bakery team providing guidance and support to ensure efficient production
- prepare doughs batters and fillings according to established recipes and techniques
- weigh and measure ingredients precisely to ensure consistency in product quality
- operate and maintain baking equipment including mixers ovens and proofing chambers
- shape mold and decorate dough to create a variety of breads pastries and desserts
- monitor the baking process to ensure products are baked to perfection and meet desired standards
- coordinate with the bakery lead to determine baking priorities and production schedules
- assist in inventory management ensuring adequate stock levels of ingredients and supplies
- receive validate and store merchandise and ingredient deliveries
- follow strict sanitation and food safety guidelines to maintain a clean and hygienic baking environment
- train and mentor new bakery staff ensuring they understand and follow established procedures
- handle customer inquiries and special orders ensuring customer satisfaction
- conduct regular quality checks and implement improvements as needed
- perform other duties as assigned
