Job Description

The Works ® is a rapidly growing regional chain of community-focused cafés that prides itself on delivering the highest quality food and friendliest customer service. Each café location is designed to reflect the vibrant character and distinct needs of the communities it serves, making every visit a unique and personalized experience. Known for its commitment to using healthy, locally sourced ingredients, The Works offers a diverse menu that includes fresh bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies, and an assortment of fresh-baked sweets. Their mission goes beyond just food; they aim to contribute positively to the health and well-being of their customers, team members, and the environment, positioning themselves as a leader in community wellness and sustainability.

The bakery team is an essential part of this mission, where dedication to quality and consistency is pivotal. The role of the Baker, affectionately dubbed the "early-bird on the oven," is perfectly suited for individuals who thrive in the early morning hours and prefer working behind the scenes to create staple baked goods that are central to The Works' offerings. This position is designed for both full-time and part-time food service professionals who are eager to be part of a dynamic and passionate team in Amherst, MA. While prior experience in baking or food preparation is preferred, The Works is open to training enthusiastic individuals with a genuine passion for baking and an eagerness to learn.

The Baker will be responsible for preparing and baking signature items such as bagels and artisan breads, ensuring they meet the company’s high standards of quality and taste. The shift starts early, typically from 2:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., providing an excellent opportunity for those who prefer early mornings and want afternoons free. This role requires excellent organization skills, the ability to follow precise instructions, and a high level of attention to detail to maintain consistency in every batch produced. Physical stamina is important as the job involves standing and moving for over eight hours at a stretch, along with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

The Works values its employees and offers industry-leading benefits including competitive hourly wages plus pooled staff tips, paid training, employee discounts on meals, paid vacations, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance programs. Performance-based bonuses are also available, recognizing the hard work and dedication of their bake team members. With a salary ranging between $20.00 and $22.50 per hour inclusive of average tips, this role offers a rewarding career path for those passionate about baking and community-focused food service.
