The Baker role at Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is a full-time, non-exempt position dedicated to delivering exceptional bakery products and service to customers. Reporting to the Bakery Manager and represented by Teamsters Local 150 union status, this role involves hands-on baking, product preparation, and maintaining attractive displays that entice and please customers. Bakers are expected to uphold all Co-op standards, including workplace safety, cleanliness, and productivity, while modeling a welcoming and friendly customer service approach aligned with the cooperative values. Bakers are trained to use equipment safely and must have or acquire necessary certifications such as the California Food Handler's Certification. This role requires balancing baking duties with customer interactions, maintaining department organization, and supporting inventory and operational needs. Bakers contribute directly to the Co-op's reputation by preparing quality baked goods according to company specifications and ensuring the visual appeal and freshness of all bakery items. The position offers hourly pay ranging from $18.75 to $24.00, reflecting experience and performance. Job Requirements

  • Basic math abilities including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Ability to measure, mix and prepare ingredients as per recipes
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency with email, websites and time clock software
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must maintain California Food Handler's Certification
  • Availability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Adherence to dress code and safety policies
  • Ability to work safely with kitchen equipment and cleaning products

Job Duties

  • Process known loss, invoices, special orders and transfers
  • Maintain working knowledge of back stock areas, inventory, and supply procedures
  • Keep accurate logs and checklists for stations
  • Use equipment safely and properly as trained
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and dress code
  • Maintain accurate and attractive signage
  • Keep department clean and orderly
  • Assist in inventory counts and cleaning projects
  • Attend meetings and events as requested
  • Communicate equipment repair needs and make adjustments
  • Support cooperative values daily
  • Perform duties in other departments as assigned
  • Uphold Employee Handbook consistently
  • Be available to work hours based on business needs
  • Maintain and update California Food Handler's Certification as required
