The Baker position within Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is a vital role that blends creativity with impeccable customer service and operational excellence. Responsible for producing high-quality bakery products, this role demands a thorough understanding of baking techniques, attention to detail in product presentation, and a passion for delivering delicious bakery items consistently. Bakers must maintain attractive, well-stocked displays while adhering to department standards, including safety, cleanliness, and productivity. Beyond baking, this role carefully follows cooperative policies and procedures to ensure a smooth department operation. The Baker interacts closely with customers, exceeding their expectations with friendly, prompt service while embodying the cooperative’s inclusive values. Given that the position reports to the Bakery Manager and is classified as non-exempt under Teamsters Local 150 union status, it demands a hands-on team player who thrives in a fast-paced retail kitchen environment. The role also requires compliance with and upkeep of food safety certifications such as the California Food Handler’s Certification.   • Proficiency in using email, website and time clock software

Job Duties

  • Upholds all Co-op policies, procedures and expectations
  • Exceed customers’ expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for diverse backgrounds
  • Model, provide and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services
  • Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers
  • Produce bakery products that meet quality and quantity standards
  • Follow department procedures for labeling, dating, and packaging products
  • Prioritize time to efficiently handle bakery prep, baking, stocking, cleaning and customer service
  • Decorate cakes with legible handwriting as assigned
  • Follow procedures for processing known loss, invoices, special orders, and transfers
  • Maintain knowledge of Cafè and Kitchen back stock and supply procedures
  • Keep logs, checklists for each station updated
  • Use equipment safely and properly according to training
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and dress code
  • Maintain accurate and attractive signage
  • Keep the department orderly and clean
  • Assist in inventory counts, storewide cleaning, and other projects
  • Attend meetings and events as requested
  • Report equipment repair and maintenance needs
  • Demonstrate support for cooperative values daily
  • Perform other duties and work in other departments as assigned
