The role of Baker at Sendik's Food Markets is integral to maintaining the store's tradition of excellence and exceptional customer service. The Baker is responsible for preparing, proofing, and baking a variety of high-quality bakery products, including breads, rolls, donuts, and muffins. This position requires adherence to production schedules to ensure adequate product availability and quality on the sales floor. Beyond baking, the Baker is expected to engage customers warmly, modeling Sendik's signature culture by greeting, engaging, and thanking every guest while providing "best in class" service. Additionally, the Baker is responsible for inventory tracking and supply ordering to meet department needs efficiently. The role also involves operating and maintaining baking equipment safely and hygienically, applying finishing touches like icing and glaze, and assisting with the training of new associates. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Prior experience in baking or food preparation preferred
- Ability to operate bakery equipment safely
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods
- Commitment to maintaining cleanliness and following safety standards
Job Qualifications
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of bakery equipment
- Prior baking experience preferred
- Excellent time management, prioritization and organization skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work at a fast paced and efficient manner
- Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
- Strong team player attitude with ability to anticipate team needs
- Ability to take initiative and make decisions independently under limited supervision

Job Duties
- Serve customers in the bakery department while modeling Sendik's culture and providing "best in class" customer service including greeting, engaging, delighting and thanking every guest for their business
- Prepare, proof and bake products for the bakery case and sales floor including breads, rolls, donuts and muffins while ensuring quality meets company standards
- Apply toppings such as icing, glaze and seeds to baked products
- Measure and mix ingredients in accordance with recipes
- Develop and follow a daily production schedule to ensure department readiness
- Track department inventory to ensure correct quantity and variety of product
- Operate, maintain and clean baking equipment including ovens, proofers, knives and mixers
- Assist department manager in preparing and placing orders
- Package and price bakery items
- Organize and store bakery supplies
- Assist with training and mentoring new associates
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety and sanitation regulations
- Assist with other bakery department duties as needed
