Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Over six months up to one year of related bakery experience
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Physical ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently
  • Visual acuity including color vision and depth perception
  • Capable of physical activities including stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Willingness to work daytime shifts
  • Commitment to following sanitation procedures and maintaining cleanliness
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Over six months up to one year of similar or related bakery experience
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Skilled in copying data, interviewing for information, guiding people and providing basic direction
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Good physical stamina for lifting and standing
  • Knowledge of bakery equipment operation and maintenance
  • Familiarity with sanitation and safety standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing along customer suggestions or requests, and enhancing the shopping experience
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service including taking product orders
  • Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule
  • Prepares make-up, bakes, and fries all department products as needed
  • Reviews the status and appearance of product for freshness and pulls by stale date
  • Invoices and puts away product as instructed by the department manager
  • Anticipates product needs for the day and subsequent days
  • Inspects incoming product quality and quantity
  • Understands bakery equipment use and follows up on maintenance issues
  • Checks signage for correct labels on advertised items
  • Reviews department for potential safety issues
  • Operates as a lead with bakery clerks
  • Prioritizes orders per customer and department manager requests
  • Proofs necessary items
  • Pulls product from freezer or cooler
  • Practices proper sanitation and ensures the work area is clean and neat
  • Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
  • Adheres to company policies and store guidelines
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time
  • Orders supplies and merchandise for the department as directed
  • Reviews products on shelf, re-merchandises, and disposes of outdated goods
  • Writes department schedule and ensures employees are present and punctual in bakery manager’s absence
  • Assists in other areas of store as needed
  • Performs job-related duties and special projects as required
