Concordia College is dedicated to creating a welcoming, diverse workplace where all employees can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the community and the college's mission.
The college seeks to fill the position of Baker within its Dining Services team. This full-time, hourly non-exempt position is year-round, operating Monday through Friday with some weekend shifts as needed. The primary shift is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but hours can vary based on production needs with rare evening shifts. The Baker will play a crucial role in maintaining the high standards of food quality and customer service Concordia Dining Services is known for. This role involves preparing a wide variety of baked goods including cookies, cakes, pies, puddings, and desserts using standardized recipes and assisting in the development and testing of new recipes to continue enhancing the culinary offerings.
As part of the responsibilities, the Baker will also ensure that all sanitation, safety, and food handling guidelines prescribed by local, state, and federal health authorities are strictly followed. Maintaining a clean and orderly workspace and equipment, performing routine preventive maintenance, and recording production details accurately are essential duties. Moreover, the role includes collaboration with student employees, support staff, and management to foster a cohesive team environment focused on excellent customer service.
The ideal candidate for this position will be skilled in high-volume bakery production, bringing a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality in every product they produce. The position requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in bakery production, a passion for baking, and strong communication skills are key attributes sought by Concordia College. The college offers an attractive compensation package starting between $17.00 and $20.10 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, coupled with a comprehensive benefits plan that supports employees' health, well-being, and professional growth.
Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, a preventative chiropractic program, retirement plans, and paid holidays including parental leave. Additionally, employees have access to tuition discounts and scholarships for themselves and their dependents through Concordia College and affiliated institutions, enhancing educational opportunities for families. Other benefits feature access to athletic facilities, library resources, fitness classes, various cultural and athletic events, campus dining discounts, and complimentary public transit rides through the MATbus system.
Working as a Baker at Concordia College offers not just a steady, professional work environment but also the opportunity to contribute to a larger mission of supporting the college community through exceptional dining services. Candidates who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment and are passionate about quality, teamwork, and innovation will find this role rewarding and impactful.
