In this role, you will also be responsible for serving items from the cafe and grab-and-go menus while maintaining smooth kitchen operations. This includes general cleaning responsibilities such as dishwashing, trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing to ensure a hygienic and organized work environment. The ideal candidate is able to work independently yet collaborate effectively with team members to support overall production goals and adapt to emerging needs.
This full-time, hourly position is compensated between $20 and $24 per hour based on experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package featuring paid leave as per Chicago regulations, employer-supported health insurance, additional voluntary coverage options such as dental and vision, and a 401(k) retirement plan with company match upon meeting eligibility requirements. Additional perks include dining discounts at 16 On Center properties, complimentary or discounted access to musical events at venues such as Salt Shed, Thalia Hall, SPACE, and Empty Bottle, and transit benefits through a pre-tax payroll deduction program.
This position is ideal for candidates with at least one year of professional pastry experience or those who have completed pastry school. Food Handler's certification is a requirement, and candidates must be comfortable working safely around allergens commonly present in baking environments. Physical endurance is necessary as the role involves standing and walking for extended hours and regularly lifting or carrying loads up to 50 pounds with repetitive hand movements such as scooping, spreading, and piping.
