The role primarily involves preparing bakery items following company policies, procedures, programs, and performance standards. Bakers at Perkins maintain food costs, ensure cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, and uphold food safety standards, all contributing to maximum guest satisfaction. The position reports to the Kitchen Manager or Manager on Duty, who provides direction and training. Key duties include baking bakery items to Perkins' specifications, labeling and dating baked goods, maintaining bakery displays, following sanitation procedures, and assisting both kitchen and front-of-house staff as needed.
This role requires enduring physical activity such as standing and walking for extended periods, ability to lift moderate weights, and exposure to heat, cold, and cleaning chemicals, making physical endurance and attention to safety important. No prior experience is required as Perkins offers in-house training on sanitation, safety, and customer service. The compensation ranges from $15.47 to $18.00 per hour. Job Requirements
- No prior bakery experience required
- Must be able to stand and walk for up to 8 hours
- Ability to see clearly at various distances
- Must communicate clearly
- Exposure to heat, steam, smoke, and cold environment
- Capability to reach heights up to 6 feet and depths of 2.5 to 3 feet
- High level of mobility and flexibility in workspaces
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic calculations
- Control and utilize fingers for writing, slicing, chopping, and operating equipment
- Must fit through openings 30 inches wide
- Ability to work irregular hours under heavy pressure and stress
- Physical ability to bend, reach, and carry trays weighing up to 50 pounds for 30 feet
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Handle exposure to dish and cleaning chemicals
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to follow recipes and company standards
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation
- Good communication skills to cooperate with team members and management

- Basic math skills to perform addition and subtraction

- Familiarity with OSHA and health department standards is a plus
Job Duties
- Bake - prepare bakery items following Perkins standards and specifications
- Label and date all trays of baked items
- Observe proper food storage procedures and ensure high standards of food safety
- Set up and maintain bakery display cases using proper merchandising techniques
- Follow proper sanitation procedures in kitchen, walk-in coolers, and storage areas
- Clean and sanitize bakery equipment, utensils, and display cases
- Control food costs by ensuring accurate portioning and recipe adherence
- Utilize FIFO (first in first out) standards for food preparation
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, prep areas, coolers, and storage
- Conduct line sweeps and clean as you go throughout the shift
- Understand OSHA requirements and health department standards
- Communicate product/service deficiencies and safety concerns to management
- Assist team members with prep and cleaning tasks
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to maintain bakery cleanliness and provide guest service
- Report problems and propose solutions to General Manager and Manager on Duty
