Job Description
Food City is a privately held, family-owned supermarket chain with a dedicated mission to "run the best store in town." Known for its commitment to quality, community involvement, and associate satisfaction, Food City stands out as a company that values its workers as its greatest asset. The company actively encourages associates to engage with local civic organizations, fostering a strong sense of community both inside and outside the workplace. Over 13% of the company is owned by its employees through an employee stock ownership plan, which promotes pride in the quality of service and products offered. Whether your skills lie in baking, accounting, trucking, or customer service, Food City provides a variety of promising career opportunities. The company also prioritizes work-life balance by offering flexible schedules so associates can spend quality time with family and friends.
The role of Food Service Associate at Food City is an essential position focused on delivering exceptional customer service while supporting daily food production and store operations. This role is designed for candidates who are enthusiastic about creating a positive, friendly, and fun working environment with a customer-first mindset. Food Service Associates are responsible for greeting customers warmly, providing prompt and courteous service, and preparing and producing quality food products like bread, rolls, pies, and cookies according to established guidelines. The role requires attention to detail in maintaining product freshness, proper packaging, and adherence to food safety standards. Associates will also assist with inventory management tasks such as stocking, product rotation, ordering supplies, and ensuring compliance with local weights and measures regulations.
Because Food City values teamwork and flexibility, Food Service Associates should expect to be cross-trained across multiple areas with varying responsibilities throughout their shifts, enhancing their skills and versatility. The job demands maintaining a neat and clean workstation and upholding the company’s food safety program. This position offers a great pathway for individuals interested in a food service career, as experience is a plus but not a strict requirement. Food City provides competitive compensation alongside comprehensive benefits, including a 401(k) plan with a company match, employee stock ownership, medical and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, and paid holidays and vacations. Working at Food City means becoming part of a friendly, community-centered company with career growth potential and a supportive environment.
