Job Description

Newport Coffee House is a small team of passionate individuals dedicated to the art of coffee roasting and baking. With three distinct locations including a roastery in Glenview, a combined bakery and coffee shop in Evanston, and a coffee shop in Bannockburn, Newport Coffee House has established itself as a community-focused establishment known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The bakery side of the business plays a significant role in enhancing the overall coffee experience for customers, offering a wide variety of freshly made pastries that perfectly complement their carefully curated coffee beverages. The pastries, including croissants, scones, muffins, quiches, as well as unique offerings like their own Swedish Knot and Cardamom Bun, contribute essential character and flavor to the brand's culinary footprint. The company values continuous improvement and strives for excellence in every aspect of its operations, inviting dedicated individuals who share their passion and drive to elevate the Bakers team. This full-time Baker position is designed for experienced pastry professionals who have a strong background in artisan baking and are eager to contribute their expertise to an evolving and vibrant baking program. With a pay range of $20.00 to $30.00 per hour and an expected 40-hour work week, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with a team of like-minded creators in an in-person setting. The Baker will be instrumental in maintaining and expanding the bakery offerings, ensuring quality, consistency, and efficiency throughout the production process.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience with artisan baking with a similar pastry offering
  • experience of laminated dough and bread baking
  • understanding on how to optimize production processes to achieve the highest quality and consistency of products
  • inventory management and purchasing of ingredients and supplies
  • ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation
  • able to communicate and collaborate with co-workers in a respectful, helpful and efficient manner
  • leading by example by working side-by-side with team members, including supporting bake-off early mornings as needed

  • Experience in artisan baking with similar pastry offerings
  • skilled in laminated dough and bread baking techniques
  • ability to optimize production processes for high quality and efficiency
  • strong inventory management skills
  • excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • commitment to cleanliness and sanitation standards
  • previous leadership or team support experience in a bakery environment

Job Duties

  • Prepare artisan pastries including laminated dough and bread baking
  • optimize production processes to ensure product quality and consistency
  • manage inventory and purchasing of baking ingredients and supplies
  • maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation
  • collaborate and communicate effectively with co-workers

  • support early morning bake-off shifts as needed
