The Baker role at Carlo's Bakery is pivotal to maintaining this reputation. The baker is responsible for producing the complete line of bakery items including cakes, cupcakes, cookies, biscotti, and other specialty baked goods. In addition to baking expertise, this role demands excellent organizational skills to keep pace with store and customer demands without overproducing, especially during slower business periods. The baker will have hands-on experience managing inventory using the FIFO (first in, first out) method to maintain product freshness.
Maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment is paramount in this role. The baker must competently use all bakery equipment such as ovens, mixers, sheeters, scales, walk-in coolers, and freezers and ensure all these areas are regularly cleaned and sanitized according to food safety standards. Beyond the technical skills, the baker must also deliver outstanding customer service, assisting with specialty orders, guiding front-of-house staff on product knowledge, and ensuring customers receive prompt and courteous service at all times. Specialty cake orders, including custom designs for weddings, birthdays, and events, are also a critical aspect of the job, requiring precise communication and meticulous adherence to customer specifications.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- minimum 1 year of baking experience preferred
- understanding of bakery equipment and food safety regulations
- ability to work various shifts including weekends and holidays
- physical ability to stand for extended periods
- ability to follow instructions carefully
- basic computer skills for entering orders
- strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

Job Duties
- Produce our entire line of baked goods including quality cakes, cupcakes, cookies, biscotti and any other production items as delegated by a manager
- ensure exceptional product by following recipes, understanding prep procedures, and maintaining raw materials quality
- make sure our baked goods are baked and decorated according to Carlo's Bakery product standards
- keep up with pace of store and customer flow
- avoid overproduction during slow business weeks
- rotate product in freezer/walk-in using FIFO method
- understand proper use of all equipment including ovens, mixers, sheeters, scales, walk-in, and freezer
- maintain a clean production area
- clean and sanitize all equipment, work areas, containers and utensils
- be quick, accurate and organized
- respect your customers' and co-workers' space and time
- prepare special orders to ensure customer specifications are met
- make sure customers receive exceptional customer service at all times
- ensure operations are in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards
- greet, assist, provide efficient service and thank guests in a prompt, courteous, friendly and business-like manner
- guide FOH staff on product questions and offer assistance in finding or suggesting product selection to customers
- take specialty cake orders as requested by customers
- enter all specialty cake sales information into Salesforce
- perform other duties as directed by a manager
