Job Description
The Greater Metropolitan Valley (GMV) YMCA is a reputable non-profit organization dedicated to promoting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility throughout the community. With a rich history of community engagement and support, the GMV YMCA offers a wide range of programs designed to enrich the lives of children, families, and adults alike. The organization is committed to fostering a safe and positive environment that encourages physical fitness, skill development, and social interaction in a supportive setting. Their mission emphasizes inclusivity, respect, and empowerment through various educational and recreational programs. As part of their extensive community impact, the YMCA operates numerous day camps and childcare initiatives that aim to provide holistic development for children during school breaks and summer months. These programs are carefully designed to integrate fun, safety, education, and personal growth in an engaging atmosphere.
The Day Camp Coordinator position at GMV YMCA is a pivotal role within the organization, tailored to oversee the comprehensive management of day camp activities. This seasonal, full-time role offers competitive pay at $18.00 per hour and operates under the supervision of the Program Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the day camp experience, including planning, development, and execution of camp activities. This position ensures that all children's social, physical, spiritual, and mental well-being are nurtured in a secure environment where safety is the utmost priority.
The coordinator’s duties encompass maintaining regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local licensing agencies, ensuring camp quality and safety, as well as managing staff training, schedules, and performance. The role also involves close collaboration with quality agency staff to fulfill inspection requirements promptly and effectively. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the Day Camp Coordinator plays an active role in participant engagement by building strong relationships with children, families, and community partners, promoting healthy lifestyle habits, and enhancing overall program visibility through marketing efforts. The position demands creativity, leadership, and an enthusiastic approach to fostering a positive camp culture. The coordinator will also be responsible for operating within budget guidelines, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the camp environment is clean, safe, and conducive to child development.
This role entails some physical demands including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations. Given these requirements, the Day Camp Coordinator must possess excellent communication skills, be detail-oriented, dependable, and be capable of maintaining composure under pressure. The role is ideal for an individual passionate about child development and community service, seeking a fulfilling opportunity to make a positive difference in children's lives through impactful programming at GMV YMCA.
