Job Description
Covenant College is a faith-based liberal arts institution committed to fostering intellectual growth and spiritual development among its students. The college offers a vibrant campus life with a strong emphasis on community, academic excellence, and personal integrity. It operates various athletic programs that engage students in competitive sports, promoting teamwork, leadership, and physical fitness within a Christian environment. The athletic events are central to the college's community activities, and the staff supporting these events play a vital role in ensuring their smooth execution and positive experiences for athletes, students, and spectators alike.
The position available is focused on supporting the Athletic Department during sports events, specifically at Barnes Gym and home fields, offering a part-time opportunity with expected work hours ranging between 10 to 20 hours per week. This role demands flexibility as work times vary, including nights and weekends, to align with athletic event schedules. The primary purpose of this position is to assist with operations during athletic events, which includes tasks such as setting up game day activities, managing events on the field or court, and facilitating the smooth movement and hosting of the away teams.
This job not only offers hands-on experience in athletic event management but also cultivates several key career and self-development skills that align with employer expectations. Candidates will develop competencies in time management, effective communication with supervisors and event participants, leadership through hosting and directing teams, professionalism in maintaining orderly event conduct, teamwork as part of the home event staff, and technological skills involving videography, stat tracking, and online scheduling tools. These responsibilities and skill developments enhance a resume, preparing students for future employment opportunities by emphasizing practical work experience within a supportive collegiate environment.
Covenant College emphasizes strong work habits based on its core values of service, diligence, faithfulness, selflessness, resourcefulness, integrity, humility, creativity, and enterprising spirit. Employees are expected to take ownership of their roles, dress professionally, communicate openly, contribute suggestions, and uphold organizational policies regarding fairness and grievance handling. The role offers an engaging work environment where students actively participate during games, pre-game preparations, and post-game breakdowns. Staff members will be provided with home event shirts as part of their uniform requirement.
Physical demands of the job include the ability to sit for extended periods during event monitoring, and the capability to lift objects weighing between 25 to 50 pounds, which is necessary for setting up and adjusting event equipment. Effective verbal communication skills are essential since the role involves exchanging information and instructions clearly and promptly to ensure the success and safety of athletic events. This position is ideal for current or incoming freshman students at Covenant College who are looking to engage deeply with the college's athletic culture while gaining valuable professional experience in a team-oriented and faith-driven environment.
