Job Description

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is a prestigious department within Brown University, an Ivy League institution located in Providence, Rhode Island. Brown University is renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, research, and a diverse, inclusive campus community. The Athletics and Recreation department supports this environment by offering a robust intercollegiate athletics program composed of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who compete at the highest levels of collegiate sports within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. The department prides itself on fostering athlete development, promoting sportsmanship, and engaging the broader university community through various athletic events and recreational activities.

The Athletics Event Worker position is a part-time, seasonal role designed to support the operations of Brown University’s athletic events from August through June each academic year. This fixed-term appointment offers approximately 10 hours of work per week and requires onsite presence to assist game day management staff effectively. This position plays an essential role in ensuring that athletic events run smoothly by handling critical tasks such as penalty box operation, scoreboard management, and other event-specific duties. The event worker not only helps with logistical support like facility setup and breakdown but also acts as a vital contributor to the overall game day experience for athletes, coaches, staff, and fans.

An Athletics Event Worker at Brown will gain valuable experience in sports event management, learning Ivy League and NCAA game protocols while working closely with a variety of campus departments including Athletic Communications, Event Management, and Marketing and Promotions. The role demands individuals who are quick to react to game situations and can effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse teams. They become integral to various in-game activities such as ball handling for outdoor sports, floor mopping during basketball games, operating the penalty box in hockey, or assisting with score distribution in gymnastics. This position is a perfect fit for candidates who are passionate about collegiate athletics and looking to enhance their skills in event coordination and sports operations in a prestigious university setting.

Employment is contingent upon successful background checks and education verification.
