Within this dynamic educational environment, the Athletics Department plays a crucial role in promoting student-athlete achievement both on and off the field. CSUB's athletic programs are aligned with NCAA Division I standards and strive to uphold the highest levels of competition, sportsmanship, and academic success. The university supports its athletics through robust administrative leadership that ensures compliance with institutional policies, NCAA regulations, and the continuous development of its programs and personnel.
The Athletics Director of Administration position at CSUB is a full-time management role classified as Administrator I within the Management Personnel Plan (MPP). Located on-site in Bakersfield, this leadership role offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from $7,084 to $7,917, commensurate with the candidate's experience, education, skills, and training. The position benefits from a comprehensive set of CSU employee benefits, including health and dental insurance options, vision coverage, retirement plans through CalPERS, a tuition waiver program, paid time off including vacation and holidays, and sick leave with unlimited accrual.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Associate Director of Athletics for Administration is responsible for providing key administrative support across human resources, business operations, sport administration, and performance support services. This position acts as a vital liaison between the Athletics Department and campus units such as Human Resources, Business Services, Information Technology, and Risk Management to promote operational efficiency, compliance, and transparency.
The role demands expertise in intercollegiate athletics administration and requires oversight of various functional areas including staff recruitment and development, budget management, game-day operations, compliance with NCAA and institutional regulations, and coordination of sport-specific activities. The incumbent will also provide administrative oversight to the Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning units to support student-athlete health, safety, and competitive readiness.
A key objective of the position is to foster an inclusive and high-performing organizational culture that aligns with CSUB's values and institutional mission. Through collaboration and communication with coaches, staff, medical professionals, and senior administrators, the Associate Director will champion accountability, continuous improvement, and student-athlete welfare. This role is instrumental in ensuring effective stewardship of resources and the sustainable growth of CSUB's Athletics Department within the framework of NCAA and university standards.
Ideal candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as business administration, sports administration, finance, human resources, or a related discipline. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate at least three years of progressive experience in intercollegiate athletics administration encompassing supervision or leadership responsibilities. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to navigate sensitive matters with diplomacy and professionalism.
